A persistent supply of tropical moisture will keep scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms in the Baton Rouge Area forecast through the upcoming weekend. Any thunderstorms may produce downpours, frequent lightning, and gusty wind. Prior to any development, humid conditions will push heat index values near 108°F, so no fall relief is in sight yet.

Tonight & Tomorrow: Once showers ease off, another muggy evening is ahead. Expect low temperatures to settle in the mid-70s under partly cloudy skies. Wednesday will bring a near repeat of the recent atmospheric setup. Heat will build rapidly by mid-morning, with high temperatures topping in the mid 90s. When you factor in the tropical moisture, your body will experience a feels-like temperature between 100°F and 108°F. As maximum warming is reached, pop-up showers and thunderstorms will develop with scattered, 50% rain coverage anticipated.

Up Next: A weak boundary separating drier continental air to the north and humid tropical air to the south will stall just to the north of the I-10/12 corridor later this week. While this boundary will not bring a refreshing crisp autumn breeze, it will act as a focal point to trigger additional showers and thunderstorms across the Capital Area. There are higher odds of downpours and localized poor drainage flooding on Thursday and Friday. Since clouds and cooling rain will arrive earlier in the day, highs will cap in the low 90s.

Football Forecasts: Just like last weekend, do not cancel outdoor plans for high school or college football, but be aware of passing thunderstorms. Friday evening, Saturday, and Sunday will not bring washouts, but lightning could cause the need for brief breaks inside and delays to events.
