Labor Day will be a hot and humid one across South Louisiana, with dangerous heat and scattered storms both in the forecast. A Heat Advisory is in effect for much of the area from late morning through early evening.
Today and Tonight: The hottest temperatures of the week are expected today as highs climb into the middle 90s. With humidity still high, heat index values will reach advisory levels across much of the Capital Region, especially during the afternoon.
A few showers and thunderstorms will develop during the day, although storm coverage should remain scattered rather than widespread. The strongest storms could produce gusty winds, frequent lightning, and heavy rainfall; some localized flooding is possible where downpours linger.
Up Next: The heat continues Tuesday and Wednesday, with lower to middle 90s still expected. A weak front trying to drop south will stall northeast of the region, helping maintain moisture and daily afternoon storm chances.
A more noticeable pattern change arrives later in the week. The upper ridge weakens and shifts farther away, allowing rain and storm coverage to increase Thursday into the weekend. More clouds and rain should also keep temperatures from getting quite as hot.
Tropics: The National Hurricane Center does not expect any tropical cyclone formation in the Gulf, Caribbean Sea, or Atlantic during the next seven days.
