GRAMERCY — A St. James Parish Sheriff's Office correctional deputy has been arrested after an investigation found sexual communication between her and an inmate.

Amaiya Fobb, a 20-year-old from Gramercy, faces charges of malfeasance in office and sexual conduct with a person in an institution, according to the St. James Parish Sheriff's Office.

According to authorities, deputies searched the St. James Parish Correctional Center last week and found that an inmate had used a TV to access a website. The website displayed sexual communication between Fobb and the inmate.

Detectives opened an investigation and found enough probable cause for an arrest warrant. Fobb was arrested Aug. 11 and her employment was terminated the same day.

"The actions of Amaiya Fobb do not define the others who wear our uniform," said Sheriff Claude J. Louis Jr. "Fobb began her employment with the St. James Parish Sheriff's Office on Jan. 12. Her employment was terminated today. I thank our detectives for conducting a fair and thorough investigation to ensure justice is served. No one is above the law."

The investigation remains active and ongoing and authorities say additional details are not available for release.
