BATON ROUGE — A man was found with a gunshot wound off Hooper Road on Tuesday morning, and prosecutors say the victim was a key witness in a murder trial.

An East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office spokesperson told WBRZ that the shooting happened at a different location, but that he was found along Corlett Drive around 6:50 a.m.

His wounds appear to be non-life-threatening, the spokesperson added.

District Attorney Hillar Moore said that the victim was a witness in a 2023 murder case involving Christopher Davis. Moore said that on Monday, all evidence in the case had been submitted, but the defense asked for a continuance Tuesday morning.

The prosecution had to agree to the continuance due to the witness being injured; the trial was pushed back to another date as a result, Moore confirmed.

The nearby Sharon Hills Elementary School was briefly placed on lockdown following the shooting, but that order was lifted by East Baton Rouge Parish School District officials before the school day began.
