After a relatively quiet Wednesday in the skies, storms will turn likely this afternoon. These higher rain chances will carry into this busy football weekend.

Today & Tonight: You can expect more clouds on Thursday, which should keep our high temperatures slightly lower than recent days. However, any brief peaks of sunshine will still be enough to push us into the lower 90s. Showers and storms will develop near midday and spread across the area through the afternoon, quickly knocking those temperatures back down. A stray morning shower is possible, but the majority of the rain will occur in the afternoon. Expect the storm activity to wind down after sunset, leaving us with a muggy night and lows in the mid-70s.

Up Next: Expect rain chances to stay elevated through the start of the weekend, with scattered to numerous showers and storms on tap for both Friday and Saturday. While it won't rain nonstop either day, the combination of cloud cover and rain-cooled air will keep afternoon highs generally held to the upper 80s and low 90s. High pressure begins building over the south Sunday and into early next week, putting a slight damper on overall storm coverage. Deep tropical moisture isn't going anywhere, so a few daily pop-up storms remain in the forecast, but the extra sunshine will allow temperatures to climb back into the mid-90s.

Football Forecasts: No need to cancel your weekend tailgate or gameday plans just yet, but definitely keep an eye on the sky. Any afternoon storms that pop up should be short-lived, with the peak activity clearing out right around sunset. The main concern for fans will be lightning, which could trigger brief delays or send you ducking for cover before the games wrap up.
