BATON ROUGE — No sales tax will be applied to firearms, ammunition and a range of hunting supplies purchases over the Labor Day weekend, the Louisiana Department of Revenue announced Thursday.

The sales tax exemption runs from Friday, Sep. 4, through Sunday, Sep. 6, which the state calls the "Louisiana 2nd Amendment Weekend Sales Tax Holiday."

Officials said it includes all gun and ammo purchases, as well as specified hunting gear, including archery supplies, hunting apparel and some knives.

The exemption does not cover purchases of hunting dogs, animal feed, off-road vehicles or vessels.

Only individual consumers can take advantage of the tax break, not businesses.
