HAMMOND — The city of Hammond is warning residents of an email scam involving fake invoices from the municipality's Building and Planning Departments.

The fake invoice carries the city's emblem and says it is issued by the city's financial director, according to images released by city officials. Other fake invoices sent by scammers pretend to be planning officials reviewing applications and requests an invoice payment and fee. The scam letters emphasize the importance of settling the fee.

Hammond officials remind residents that all invoices are issued through the city's online permitting software, MyGovernmentOnline.

Residents with any questions are urged to call the building department at 985-277-5639.
