The Capital Area will enjoy a warm, mostly calm start to the weekend before typical late-August moisture pushes rain coverage higher Sunday and Monday. While afternoon temperatures will consistently reach the low 90s, high humidity will make heat index values feel well above 100 degrees before afternoon storms.

Drier Day: weekend starts with minimal pop-up showers

Afternoon T-Storms: scattered around Sunday into next week

No Chill: above average highs in the low to mid 90s continue

Tonight & Tomorrow: Under clear skies, low temperatures will drop to a seasonable range in the mid 70s tonight. Thanks to some relatively drier air in the atmosphere, Saturday will bring plenty of sunshine and no more than spotty afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Across Metro Baton Rouge, high temperatures will climb into the low 90s tomorrow.

Up Next: Starting Sunday, the upper-level ridge of high pressure will shift away from our area, allowing rich moisture to flow back in from the Gulf. This transition will trigger isolated showers and thunderstorms beginning Sunday and ramping up to scattered activity on Monday.

For much of the rest of next week, standard late summer weather will persist. Heat will continue, only interrupted in some neighborhoods by isolated, pop-up showers and thunderstorms.
