VILLE PLATTE — More than 10 Evangeline Parish inmates are accused of using Bible pages soaked in chemicals to make cigarettes, according to deputies. 

Evangeline Parish deputies said they observed inmates congregating in one dorm restroom; when the inmates exited, they allegedly acted as if they were drunk and stumbled as they walked. 

When deputies entered the dormitory, they said the smell of burnt paper "permeated" through the dorm. 

Pieces of Bible paper rolled into a cigarette that appeared to be soaked with cleaning chemicals and other unspecified substances were found in the dormitory, according to officials. Deputies said they also found two batteries, a magnet, a metal plate and staples, which they believed inmates used to light the Bible paper.

Arrested inmates were: Tyrel Guillory, Robert Gallow, Atravion Charles, Templeton Guillory, Skaundrey Herbert, Derrick Holcomb, Haiden King, Kochanski Ardoin, Kamryn McClay, DeQuandre Soileau and Mario Wilson. 

All inmates were charged with two counts related to fire-raising in a correctional facility, one count of possession of contraband in a penal facility and one count of distribution or possession of synthetic cannabinoids.
