BATON ROUGE — East Baton Rouge Parish deputies arrested a teen accused of murder in a December shooting at an Old Hammond Highway convenience store.
Jeremiah Howze, 17, was arrested on New Year's Eve for the Dec. 23 shooting that left a man dead at the corner of Old Hammond Highway and O'Neal Lane.
Deputies said Howze is accused of shooting the man, 18-year-old Kyle Earthly Jr., multiple times in a car the pair drove to the convenience store together. When deputies arrived, they found the gun in the victim's lap.
After the shooting, deputies said Howze got out of the car while it was running and fled the scene on foot while the car crossed four lanes of traffic before crashing into a curb.
Deputies said surveillance footage showed Howze picking up the victim and then returning home 22 minutes after the shooting, where he changed clothes and fled.
Witnesses who spoke to Howze after the alleged murder said that "he had done something bad and could not return home." He then turned off his cell phone location and stopped answering calls, deputies added.
Howze was eventually arrested on Jan. 1 on second-degree murder and obstruction of justice charges.
