ZACHARY — Investigators with the Zachary Police Department determined that no shots were fired on Saturday after several reports of a shooting led to the Zachary Really Hot Air Balloon Festival being shut down. 

According to the department, officers at the festival received multiple reports of shots fired at the festival grounds around 8:11 p.m. on Saturday.

After collecting various witness statements and reviewing camera footage, officers determined that a battery had likely occurred, and while a firearm may have been brandished, no shots were fired. 

According to officers, no spent shell casings were recovered at the scene, and multiple witnesses who were in close proximity to the incident claimed not to have heard any gunshots. 

Officers later received a tip that a person of interest would be meeting someone at a Rouses Market located on Church Street; however, after further investigation, it was determined that the individual was not involved in the incident. 

"Out of an abundance of caution and in the interest of public safety, we made the decision to close the festival," Zachary Police Chief Darryl Lawrence, Sr. said. "We look forward to meeting with festival organizers to review our findings and make any adjustments needed to strengthen security at future events."
