Tropical Depression Six formed in the eastern subtropical Atlantic on Friday afternoon. Located a few hundred miles southwest of the Azores, the system will meander over the coming days before turning southwest next week. In doing so, the system could strengthen into a weak tropical storm, taking the name Fay in the process.

Notably, this system organized rapidly. The National Hurricane Center did not include the disturbance in its official outlook until 7 a.m. Friday. It highlights just how quickly tropical systems can evolve. Fortunately, this storm should stay over open water with no threat to the United States.
