Students, teachers affected by Tropical Storm Arthur may qualify for FEMA assistance

BATON ROUGE — Students and teachers whose homes and personal property were damaged by Tropical Storm Arthur qualify for FEMA disaster assistance, officials said Thursday.

Those students and teachers affected by the June storm in Avoyelles, Lafourche, Pointe Coupee, St. Landry, St. Tammany and Terrebonne parishes may qualify for assistance for other disaster-caused expenses, such as essential personal property losses.

These may include repairing or replacing necessary personal property such as textbooks, computers, school supplies, furniture, appliances or clothing. Teachers and students who need to have their vehicles repaired or replaced, as well as helping cover uninsured or out-of-pocket medical, dental, childcare, moving and storage expenses.

FEMA may help pay for temporary housing needs whether you rent or own a home, including rental assistance to rent another place to live if you are displaced or displacement assistance to help with immediate housing needs if you can't return to your affected residence because of the disaster.
