BATON ROUGE — Louisiana has installed a new computer system for the Office of Motor Vehicles designed to make the department more efficient, replacing the previous 50-year-old system.

The state announced Tuesday that it has gotten rid of its old OMV system in favor of the CHAMP system. The new "Driver Services" platform is designed to support driver's licenses, identification cards, credential management and other digital government services, the governor's office said. 

According to Gov. Jeff Landry, the new CHAMP system will ensure quicker turnaround, minimize delays and outages, and save taxpayers $30 million.

The governor's office said it plans to implement CHAMP's "Vehicle Services" platform in 2027, "creating an integrated environment that supports both driver and vehicle transactions through a unified modern architecture."
