Hyundai-POSCO gets air permit for $5.8 billion Ascension Parish steel mill
DONALDSONVILLE — Hyundai-POSCO secured an air permit from the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality for its proposed $5.8 billion steel mill, officials told WBRZ.
The $5.8 billion steel mill broke ground on Sept. 4 in Donaldsonville and is expected to create 5,400 jobs.
WBRZ previously covered the construction of the mill, including $1 billion in bonds being approved by the Louisiana Bond Commission and non-disclosure agreements between Ascension Parish and Hyundai Steel.
"This milestone marks an important step forward for the project and the community, as the construction phase is expected to bring significant additional economic growth and opportunities to the area," officials said in a statement.
