FINAL: Southern falls to No. 22 Houston 77-6
HOUSTON, Texas - The Southern Jaguars fall to No. 22 Houston 77-6.
The Cougars scored on 11 straight offensive possessions, while the Jags had four turnovers in the first half.
In Southern's second drive of the game, quarterback Christian Johnson was strip sacked and the fumble was recovered by Central High alum, DK Mays. Houston would punch in a touchdown just three plays later.
Backup quarterback Ashton Strother was put into the game early in the second quarter. He ends that first drive with a pass that's intercepted by Houston's Jordan Allen.
Houston would punch in another touchdown within the final two minutes of the first half.
It would be the same story for much of the second half. The Cougars added 21 points in the third quarter.
Southern would avoid the shutout, though. Late in the third quarter, quarterback Wyatt McCauley made his Southern debut. He threw a 79-yard touchdown pass to freshman receiver Wydell Clark Jr. The extra point was no good.
