BATON ROUGE - What all started as a separate legal fight over player eligibility quickly escalated to an even bigger legal battle.

Last week, former NCAA athletes took the stand in court, looking to be granted a 5th year of eligibility.

The same day, the SEC filed a federal lawsuit against LSU, claiming that the university's behavior surrounding the case harmed the SEC by creating a competitive imbalance and disrupting the expectations of student-athletes.

Tuesday, an amendment was filed, saying a meeting will be held by conference CEO's this week to decide whether to remove LSU.

"They're not kicking LSU out of the SEC; we are the SEC. They don't want to lose Saturday nights in Tiger Stadium," LSU alumnus Frank Duffy said.

Several Tiger fans WBRZ spoke with called the effort simply ridiculous.

"It seems like again, anything related to Lane Kiffin, around the country, these other schools, it's like they are totally against him, and they will do anything and try to do anything, if they can, to hurt him, and I think it's ridiculous," one LSU alumnus said.

According to the amendment, a vote of at least two-thirds of the conference CEO's is needed to kick LSU out of the SEC.

"It's literally the powerhouse of college football, so knowing that LSU getting expelled from the SEC would be kind of like a heartbreak to me cause I feel one, we'd lose a lot of competition, so we'd have an easy season, and two, it's just my childhood, so I feel like I'd be losing a lot with that," LSU student Austin Landry said.

If LSU, hypothetically, were to be removed from the SEC, many students tell me they do not feel it would change the game day experience.

"I don't think us being in the SEC or even the Big Ten or even as low as FCS school, the culture that we have here is so strong, I don't think anything can break that," LSU student Sebastian Urroz said.

But some students say a move like that would be heartbreaking.

"If you ask anybody, anybody that's a fan of the SEC, what's one of the best environments you've been in for SEC football, they say the Death Valley," LSU student Cohen Thibodeaux said.

A federal judge will hear the SEC's arguments for a temporary restraining order against LSU at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Birmingham.

The conference CEOs are set to meet Thursday to vote on whether to remove LSU from the SEC.
