ST. GEORGE — A road-rage-fueled shooting along the interstate sent one person to the hospital and another to jail, according to the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office.

An EBRSO arrest affidavit shows a woman was driving on Friday night with two passengers along Bluebonnet Boulevard, near the I-10 on-ramp, when she came across a slow-driving car.

When the woman tried to pass the slow driver, identified as 22-year-old Lenard Riney, he allegedly sped up, forcing the woman to get behind him again.

Both motorists got onto the interstate, where the woman moved into the left lane to once again pass Riney. According to the affidavit, she threw her hands up at Riney and flipped him off as she passed him.

Riney allegedly sped up, pulled out a gun and shot at the woman's car, hitting a man who was sitting in the backseat. The woman exited the interstate at Pecue Lane and called 911.

The man was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to arrest records, deputies used license plate readers to track Riney to a gas station along George O'Neal Road, where he was arrested.

Riney, according to the affidavit, admitted to deputies that he rolled down his window and shot at the woman's car.

He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated criminal damage to property and illegal use of weapons.
