GONZALES — An East Ascension High School teacher and basketball coach was arrested Monday night on charges of reckless operation, flight from an officer and DWI.

Ascension Parish deputies said that, around 11:43 p.m., they saw a vehicle driving south in the northbound lane of Airline Highway near Highway 621. The car did not have its headlights on.

Deputies initiated a traffic stop, but the driver, later identified as 49-year-old Troy Green, continued driving. The pursuit ended around two miles away near La. 74 and KC Road.

Green, who is from White Castle, showed signs of impairment and was taken into custody. He was booked into the parish jail before being released Tuesday morning.

"We take matters involving our employees seriously and are reviewing the circumstances surrounding this incident in accordance with district policies and procedures. As this is an ongoing legal and personnel matter, we cannot provide further comment at this time," Jackie Tisdell, a spokesperson for Ascension Parish Schools, said in a statement.

Green joined East Ascension in 2022.
