Kiffin says limiting mistakes will be key as LSU searches for first SEC road win at Auburn

BATON ROUGE — LSU is back on the road this weekend as the Tigers look to do something they haven't accomplished yet this season: win an SEC game away from Death Valley.

LSU travels to Auburn on Saturday to face a team coming off an upset victory over No. 1 Georgia. Head Coach Lane Kiffin believes finding success in another hostile environment will come down to playing cleaner.

"A lot of times on the road, as you break down your losses and close losses, they're usually not as much how many plays they make," Kiffin said. "It's more the mistakes you make and more penalties, more false starts and more turnovers than when you play at home."

One of LSU's biggest challenges will be containing Auburn quarterback Byrum Brown, who Kiffin praised for his physical style of play and familiarity with Auburn's offense.

"Really hard player to tackle," Kiffin said. "Really strong and through a lot of arm tackles, seems really smart by the way that he plays. "He's coming from the same system, with the same offensive coaches and head coach. You can see that they're very comfortable."

Auburn enters the matchup with momentum after knocking off the nation's top-ranked team, but Kiffin acknowledged the challenge of following up an emotional victory.

"Relief syndrome is real," Kiffin said. "You start to be told how great you are when you have those wins. I was rooting for them at the end of the game to win, knowing we were playing them the next week, just because that makes it more challenging."

LSU and Auburn will kick off Saturday at 11 a.m. in Jordan-Hare Stadium. The game will air on WBRZ.
