BATON ROUGE — Homecoming has excited Southern University students and alums all week, and with the homecoming game kicking off tomorrow, area businesses say they're already feeling like winners.

During homecoming, you can guarantee three things: good fun, good friends and good food. Some of the restaurant owners right off Southern's campus say they've been serving up more food this week than any other week.

"I have to increase everything when I'm ordering my food trucks, so pretty much it's almost double what I would normally get," Shametria Lavergne, the Owner of Sunshine's Place, said.

During homecoming week, Lavergne says her business makes almost double the amount of money as during regular home game weekends, making southern homecoming her most profitable week of the year.

"We've had a lot of people come in from all over cause they're traveling to come watch our home team play. Busy, busy, busy, as you can see for this little hour, we've had a lot of customers come in," Lavergne said.

At Top Choice Products, owner Howard L. White Jr. says anytime there is an influx of people looking to spend money on paraphernalia, it carries a positive impact.

"Homecoming is pretty much like a Black Friday week, and so that's why we were open extended hours, and really worked to be here and staff up for alums," White said.

White says alums—especially out-of-town alums—tend to spend a lot more because they may not return to the bluff until next year or even the year after.

"Homecoming is by far, if I compare it to a regular home game, it's easily 3x, 4x the results from a sales standpoint," White said.
