BATON ROUGE — The Baton Rouge Police Department arrested one of the three men they allege shot two people leaving Southern University's Homecoming Parade last month.

Police on Tuesday arrested 20-year-old Jahiem Demond Johnson, who faces charges including illegal use of weapons, seven counts of attempted first-degree murder and three counts of aggravated criminal damage to property.

BRPD issued three arrest warrants last week in connection to the shooting for various charges, including attempted first-degree murder, aggravated criminal damage to property and illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities, and principal to attempted first-degree murder.

It appears the two other men are still wanted by police.

Arrest documents say the three cars were leaving the parade and driving south on Scenic Highway. The three vehicles had multiple people in the cars, including three children.

One of the victims told police that three men jumped out of their car, with one of them holding an AR-15 while another brandished a handgun, a warrant said.

The suspect vehicles fled northbound to Scenic Highway after the shooting, officials said. All three vehicles were struck and damaged by gunfire in the shooting. The injuries to the two men who were struck were non-life-threatening.
