Baton Rouge teen pleads guilty to manslaughter midtrial
BATON ROUGE — Nineteen-year-old Tyler Hoggan has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in connection with a fatal shooting outside a North Acadian Thruway convenience store in 2024.
Hoggan, previously indicted for second-degree murder, was accused of shooting 29-year-old Patrick White in November 2024 after an argument.
Per the plea deal with the state, Hoggan faces 30 years in prison on the manslaughter charge, with credit given for time served.

Hoggan’s legal team planned to argue that the teenager acted in self-defense, but Judge Brad Meyers denied it and did not include the option in the jury's deliberation instructions.
