MONTGOMERY — About 19 students were sent to the hospital following a school bus crash on Highway 71 near Campground Cutoff just north of Montgomery on Friday afternoon. 

According to the Grant Parish Sheriff's Office, while there were no fatalities, 21 students were on board at the time of the crash, with about 19 of them being sent to the hospital. Two of those hospitalized were airlifted to facilities in Shreveport. 

On Friday afternoon, Grant Parish School Board released the following statement: 

We appreciate the outpouring of support and concern following the school bus accident that occurred today near Montgomery.

Emergency responders have been on the scene, and the safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our top priority. **No casualties have been reported at this time, and all students have been safely transported from the scene.**

We continue to work closely with emergency personnel and will provide additional information when it is appropriate and confirmed.

The Louisiana State Police is leading the investigation into the crash.
