BATON ROUGE — The American Red Cross of Louisiana and the Gardere Initiative held an official partnership ceremony on Monday.

Over the past two years, both organizations have been working together on community events and serving the residents of Baton Rouge. However, this year, the organizations have committed to working together and serving the Gardere neighborhood.

As part of their agreement, the Red Cross will donate technology, operational resources and provide CPR training to 50 people in the community. In return, the Gardere Initiative will help coordinate food, health, mental health, and housing resources. The organization will also provide a facility space during disaster operations when needed.

The Gardere Initiative will also recruit local volunteers to support American Red Cross disaster operations.

"Strong communities are built through trusted partnerships," Micah Nicholas, Executive Director of Red Cross Louisiana Capital Area-West Chapter, said. "The Gardere Initiative has long been a champion for families in this community, and we're proud to invest in a partnership that not only expands access to resources but also helps residents become leaders in preparedness and disaster response."
