The pattern of cool mornings and warm afternoons is not going anywhere anytime soon. No rain is in the forecast for the next 7 days.

Today & Tonight: Although we are a bit warmer this morning, we are still cool enough that jackets are a good idea. Highs will also be a bit warmer, in the lower 80s. Expect mainly sunny skies with some passing high clouds filtering the sunshine at times. Overnight, lows will drop back down, with most in the lower 50s. Some could even sneak into the upper 40s.

Up Next: Crisp mornings and warm afternoons are on tap for the area all week long. Morning lows will routinely fall in the low to mid-50s before rebounding into the 80s under sunny skies. A dry air mass is responsible for these sharp temperature swings while also keeping any rainfall well away from the Capital Area.

The continued dry streak is deepening regional drought concerns. Unusually dry vegetation significantly raises the threat of grass fires this week, making outdoor burning particularly hazardous regardless of official fire weather alerts.

The Tropics: A storm-force non-tropical low pressure area remains attached to a frontal boundary a few hundred miles off the North Carolina coast. This low could develop some organized thunderstorm activity and gradually lose its frontal features over the next couple of days while it moves slowly north-northeastward over the Gulf Stream. By the end of the week, the system is expected to accelerate northeastward away from the the eastern United States, where environmental conditions are expected to become unfavorable for subtropical or tropical development.

Regardless of development, the storm will cause high winds, coastal flooding, and dangerous surf along parts of the East Coast. The next name up is Josephine.
