Suspects arrested, businesses closed in multi-agency illegal vape crackdown
BATON ROUGE - Six smoke shops across Louisiana, including one in Baton Rouge, had their licenses suspended as part of "Operation Vape Out.”
The Louisiana Office of Alcohol and Tobacco Control headed the four-week investigation.
"The goal of which was to confiscate unauthorized and illegal vape products, and to identify and arrest the people responsible at these retail and wholesale businesses," ATC spokesperson Byron Henderson said.
Agents suspended the permits of six businesses including Smokin Aces Smoke Shop in Baton Rouge. They issued more than 140 citations statewide and made ten arrests.
Smokin Aces was seen closing its doors to customers on Monday.
In total, the ATC and other agencies seized 34,000 vape pens, pods and juices, 16,000 CBD products and 6,500 containers of nitrous oxide along with other restricted products, including marijuana, psilocybin, and a product called tianeptine, which is known as gas station heroin.
"We really want people to be aware that there are products out there that are not safe, that are not authorized by the legislature by the laws of the state that governs these products and that ATC is out there constantly day in and day out making sure these products are not available," Henderson said.
The agency says they'll continue to work around the state to stop the distribution of these products.

"Despite the end of the 'Operation Vape Out' investigation, which lasted four weeks, the enforcement effort continues statewide," Henderson said.
ATC hopes the public will report suspicious products or activity at local shops as enforcement efforts continue.
