You may be presenting a card today because of an interesting legend.  While in prison, it is believed that Valentine fell in love with the jailor’s daughter who visited him during his confinement. Before his death, it is alleged that he wrote her a letter, which he signed 'From your Valentine.'  I’ve located a few Valentine’s Day cities and one that the editor won’t permit me to print outside Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Lots of warmth will be needed today in Valentine, Nebraska. Loveland, Colorado, Ohio and Oklahoma look lovely with rose deliveries in Belle Rose and St. Rose, Louisiana. Here are some not so "sweet" events for Valentine's Day. In Mount Desert Island, Maine in 1853, a snowstorm was interrupted when vivid, purplish lightning crashed into windows and chimneys. A "rogue" wave moved out of the Pacific Ocean hitting Port Arena, CA in 1998. Thirty cars were scattered along with logs and debris. Valentine's Day, 1978 found 1000 residents of eastern Colorado without power for a week with five inch ice-collars on the lines. In 1899, Brownsville, Texas, recorded the coldest high on record at 29 degrees and a low of 12. Finally, Valentine's Day, 1895 and the all-time single snow event for our state was recorded in Rayne, LA as two feet of snow was reported.
