NEW IBERIA — A 67-year-old man was arrested in New Iberia following an investigation into a reported stabbing, according to the New Iberia Police Department. 

According to the department, on Aug. 14, officers responded to South Hopkins Street for a reported stabbing, where they located an unresponsive 76-year-old woman inside a residence. She was later pronounced dead at the scene.

As a result of the investigation, 67-year-old Wilfred Babino was arrested and booked into the Iberia Parish Jail for first-degree murder. 

The investigation remains ongoing.
