It might be the last day of summer, but the hot and sticky feel will carry over into the first day of astronomical fall. That’s not the end of the story, however. A midweek front might offer slight relief toward the end of the week.

Tonight & Tomorrow: Afternoon thunderstorms will fizzle during the evening, leaving behind a few clouds. Even those will clear overnight, leading to a sunny start on Tuesday. Overnight lows have risen, and that trend continues into Tuesday morning with lows in the mid-70s. Tuesday marks the first day of fall, but it will certainly not feel like it, with highs getting up to 95°. Thanks to plenty of sunshine, feels-like temperatures will venture into the triple digits. Despite higher humidity remaining, rain chances will trend down on Tuesday. Roughly 20% of the area will come across an afternoon shower.

Up Next: Rain chances will fade almost entirely for the rest of the week, as a weak front brings another surge of drier air into the area. This will bring another drop in humidity similar to what we experienced last week. Highs will stay above average in the low-90s, but even that is an improvement from the mid-90s from the early week stretch. The relatively comfortable feel will persist into the weekend — great timing for the matchup at Tiger Stadium vs. Texas A&M.

The Tropics: After a run toward hurricane strength, Fay remained a tropical storm overnight and has continued to weaken throughout Monday. This trend will continue, and Fay will become post-tropical by midweek as the storm interacts with some dry air and wind shear. Both will work to tear the system apart and keep it from impacting land.

Meanwhile, there’s a new tropical wave to watch that will move off the west African coast on Wednesday. There’s a 20% chance of tropical development over the next seven days as the system moves toward the Cabo Verde Islands by late week.
