LIVINGSTON — A campaign mailer forced the Livingston Parish government to close its bank account after allegedly revealing the parish's account and routing numbers. 

The mailer, sent out by district attorney candidate Sherman Mack, accused his opponent, Brad Cascio, of benefiting from the parish's litigation, as he also works as a lawyer at Moody Law Firm, which the parish government uses for legal services. 

Images of checks containing real names, bank account numbers and routing numbers allegedly lined the mailer. 

Livingston Parish's Chief Financial Officer Mickey Morris notified the Parish Council's Finance Committee of the issue on Thursday at a finance meeting. He also noted that the bank will close the parish's account, which will cause a delay in service.

"We don't know how these checks got out," Morris said at the meeting. They didn't leave our office under a public records request because we would have redacted that information."

Livingston Parish Deputy Finance Director Gail Housley said it will take a minimum of two to three weeks for new payments to go out from the parish government. 

"We have hundreds of vendors and other stuff, you know, school board, sheriff's office, so forth that we have to speak with," said Housley.

Mack claimed that check images on that mailer are public records and include the same information that any citizen who receives a check from the parish government would receive, according to a report by The Advocate. 

Cascio took to social media on Friday to comment on the situation.

"Hundreds, if not thousands of vendors, employees, etc. will be required to have direct deposit and ACH information changed, which will take weeks, and cost the Parish a considerable amount of money," Cascio said online.
