BATON ROUGE— October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and a local nonprofit is making health education and wellness accessible to the Baton Rouge community through a special event this weekend.

Dariia Hozhenko, a Medical Physics PhD student working with Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, has founded Awaken—an organization created to bridge the gap between clinical science and everyday health care literacy.

On Saturday, Oct. 11, Awaken is hosting a free Breast Cancer Awareness Yoga Event at the Main Library on Goodwood.

Designed to empower and inform women in a relaxed environment, the event combines a free guided yoga session with open conversations focused on personal wellness and the vital importance of early detection and regular screenings.
