BATON ROUGE — Louisiana Innovation has released a new short film spotlighting the state's shipbuilding industry and its shift toward autonomous maritime technology.

The film, titled "Louisiana Shipbuilding," is part of the LA.IO Presents: Stories of Louisiana Innovation series, a division of Louisiana Economic Development. A new series trailer narrated by Gov. Jeff Landry also debuted alongside the film.

The film traces Louisiana's maritime history from the Higgins boats used in World War II to present-day ice cutters and autonomous surface vessels. It highlights how automation, robotics, artificial intelligence and precision manufacturing are reshaping an industry that has long been central to the state's economy.

"Louisiana has always been a place where people solve complex challenges by building things that matter," said Josh Fleig, LED Chief Innovation Officer. "This film shows that our shipbuilding story isn't just about our history — it's about what's happening right now."

"The technologies being developed and built here are defining the future of maritime innovation while creating new opportunities for Louisiana workers, entrepreneurs and manufacturers," Fleig said.

"Louisiana Shipbuilding" is the latest in a series that previously featured Intralox, Delta Biofuel, MECO and Natrx. Those films earned national and international recognition including Gold ADDY Awards for each film and six Viddy Awards across the series.

The broader LA.IO campaign also received Best in Show for Cinematography at the AAF New Orleans ADDY Awards, a Clio Bronze for Music and a Fast Company Innovation by Design Award.

A new series trailer connects stories from advanced manufacturing, energy, life sciences and coastal adaptation into a broader look at innovation across Louisiana and sets up additional films planned for the future.
