GONZALES — Gonzales Police Department have identified the man who was killed on Saturday afternoon on North Burnside Avenue after being struck by a vehicle.

Veronico Garcia, 44, was crossing N. Burnside Avenue when he was struck by a passing vehicle. Garcia was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center with critical injuries, where he later died on Sunday.

Gonzales Police traffic officers have concluded their investigation into the crash, and following a review of the circumstances and evidence, no criminal charges will be filed. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, authorities said.

“The Gonzales Police Department extends its condolences to Garcia’s family and loved ones,” the police department said in a statement.
