Expect clear, dry weather to stick around the region for the weekend, with afternoon highs reaching the mid-80s and cool, crisp mornings dropping into the lower 50s. The downside to this pleasant stretch is that dry ground combined with increasing winds will make the fire risk higher. Take extra care with any open flames, and be sure to hold off completely if your parish or county is under a burn ban.

Today & Tonight: Friday is shaping up to be another gorgeous, sun-filled fall day, with highs comfortable in the mid-80s and a gentle northeast breeze at 5 to 10 mph. Heading out to high school football games Friday evening? You can look forward to clear weather and calm winds as temperatures drop from the 70s into the 60s throughout kickoff to the final whistle—a light jacket or sweater will definitely come in handy. By early morning, expect cool conditions to settle in again as overnight lows reach the low 50s.

Up Next: A stationary high-pressure ridge remains anchored above us, keeping rain away and trapping unseasonably warm, dry air across the area. This will stay true over the weekend, although wind speeds will increase. Gusts could top 20 mph inland on Saturday and Sunday, which—when paired with our ongoing dry spell—will send fire danger levels climbing even higher. On the bright side, an influx of slightly cooler air will trim back afternoon highs just a bit, capping them in the low 80s.

Early next week, a weak front looks to get through here on Tuesday. Don't expect any relief for dry lawns, though—the front will pass through virtually moisture-free, with rain chances remaining under 10%. Instead, it will just lock in another surge of dry continental air, maintaining mild daytime highs in the low 80s and crisp overnight lows near 50 degrees straight into the middle of the week.
