PLAQUEMINE — A proposed AT&T telecommunications tower on Bayou Road in Plaquemine will move forward after a federal court ruling directed Iberville Parish officials to issue the necessary permits.

The Iberville Parish Council originally denied AT&T’s application for the 275-foot structure at 60375 Bayou Road in June 2025, following public pushback from local residents concerned about the facility's location.

AT&T then filed a lawsuit in federal court challenging the council's decision. The U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana ruled in favor of AT&T on Sept. 14, ordering the parish government to grant all permits and approvals required to construct the tower.

In a statement to residents on Tuesday, Iberville Parish President Chris Daigle said that the parish has decided not to appeal the ruling after reviewing its legal options.

"Iberville Parish Government will comply with the court's order, and AT&T may move forward with the permitting and construction process as authorized by the ruling," Daigle said. “We understand that residents in the surrounding area have expressed concerns about this project throughout the process. The Parish Council provided opportunities for those concerns to be heard and considered as the application moves through the public process.

"While the outcome is different from the Council's original decision, Iberville Parish Government respects the judicial process and will fulfill its obligations under the court's order."
