DUBLIN, Ireland — Baton Rouge's Episcopal School is heading to Ireland to kick off its 2027 football season.

The Episcopal Knights football players, cheerleaders, dance team members, drum corps members and spirit groups will spend the last week of August 2027 in Dublin when they face off against another American team in a Friday night game during the Global Ireland Football Tournament in a 6,000-seat Irish rugby stadium on Aug. 27, 2027.

The game will coincide with a college football game in Dublin between the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Wisconsin-Madison on Aug. 28, 2027. There will also be parades and festivities celebrating the union of Irish and American traditions.

"After 30 years of coaching, opportunities to do something out of the norm are exciting," Head Coach Travis Bourgeois said. "This will give our kids the chance to do something no other Episcopal team has ever done before. Our athletes will be ambassadors for the sport, our state and our school."

While American teams have been playing in Ireland since 2012, this is the first time a Louisiana team has taken part in the international event.
