BATON ROUGE — An alleged murderer is facing new charges after deputies say he stabbed a fellow inmate multiple times in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

Jermaine Savoy, 26, allegedly covered his face with a T-shirt before stabbing the other inmate eight times while in the dayroom area of the prison on Oct. 20. The victim was stabbed in the head, back, face and stomach, according to an arrest affidavit.

The victim told investigators that although he is not gang-affiliated, he has family members who are, which has led to multiple threats toward him since being booked into the prison.

Savoy was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in February in connection with a 2023 killing along North Boulevard.

After the stabbing, he was re-booked for aggravated battery and felon in possession of a concealed weapon.
