HOUMA — A 13-year-old male student was arrested on multiple charges Friday for allegedly bringing a loaded handgun to Evergreen Junior High.

The school went on lockdown after receiving a tip that a student might have a weapon on campus. Terrebonne Parish deputies located the juvenile in a boys’ bathroom and brought him to a private area, where they uncovered the loaded handgun. 

While conducting interviews at the school, a student reported that the suspect had shown him the firearm and threatened to shoot him if he reported it. Investigators believe the handgun was stolen from a relative’s home.

“A loaded firearm and a threat against another student demand an immediate response,” Sheriff Tim Soignet said. 

The student has been arrested on charges of aggravated assault with a firearm, terrorizing, menacing, theft of a firearm, illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile, and carrying a firearm or dangerous weapon by a student or nonstudent at school.

He was booked into a juvenile detention center and remains detained pending court proceedings.
