Another dynamic of our Fill-A-Prescription for the Needy Campaign includes our Jambalaya lunches at the Baton Rouge Clinic. The late Howard Bolton championed this effort to provide a great lunch and call awareness to the campaign. Yesterday was our first of three lunches as I noticed the throng of folks entering the clinic. I thought about the seasonal disciplines of taking vitamins and proper rest. Our Coats for Kids campaign has encouraged dressing kids warmly. In our broadcasts on Monday, physicians concurred that changing weather patterns were the cause of additional allergy symptoms and colds while another report blamed the weather for an increase in mosquitos. According to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, cold weather is the common scapegoat for sickness and drastic climate changes are not responsible for causing illness. The Institute believes that people are sick because of time spent indoors where viruses thrive in dry, indoor air and the spread of germs transmitted through direct contact. Prevention during the winter months has always included coughing into your interior arm and especially washing your hands and wrists.
