GAINESVILLE, Fla. -  13th-ranked LSU softball shut out No. 5 Florida, 3-0, Saturday afternoon to even up the series in Gainesville.

Junior Michaela Schlattman supplied the pop in the fifth inning belting her third home run of the season.

“She had a lot of big moments for us, said head coach Beth Torina. First, she was able to throw out the runner there early in the game, which I think set the tone for us the whole way. Then the big home run coming off her bat, just a huge day for her.”

The two-run shot was more than enough run support for Maribeth Grosuch in the circle. She kept the Gators off balance all afternoon shutting them out through 6.1 innings of work.

“Maribeth, what a solid performance from her," said Torina. The team really needed her to step up today and she did. She is a talented player, talented pitcher. She showed what she is capable of doing for this team today.”

In the seventh, LSU went to the pen and called on Allie Walljasper who forced a ground out with the bases loaded to complete the shutout. Walljasper earned her first save of the year as LSU improved to 37-12 overall and 10-9 in the SEC.

The Tigers will go for the series Sunday against the Gators at 11 a.m. CT/12 p.m. ET. The game will air on ESPN2.
