BATON ROUGE - Campus officials at LSU have given approval to the Kappa Sigma Fraternity for permission to demolish its current fraternity house on Dalrymple Drive.

The house was deemed uninhabitable in August 2015. An inspection of the house performed earlier in the year confirmed what many alumni already knew, which was that the house suffered from unsustainable foundation and structural damage. It was built in the 1930s.

Demolition will now begin within the next four weeks, taking five to six weeks to complete. When the funds have been raised, construction of a new house on the property will begin.

The new 22,000 square foot house will be large enough to house 52 men with the project estimated to cost more than $7 million. So far, the fraternity has raised $5.3 million.

“Over 700 alumni have donated to the campaign, which underscores the importance of the fraternity and the dire need for a new home on LSU’s campus.  We all want to ensure that our legacy and presence remain strong at LSU.  I have no doubt that we will reach our goal, and I encourage all alumni to join us in completing this project,” states Fundraising Committee Co-Chairman Billy Harrison.

Members of the Kappa Sig Fraternity are currently leasing the Acacia house on West Lakeshore Drive. The LSU chapter was founded in 1869.
