LIVINGSTON PARISH - A man facing a slew of contractor fraud charges in three parishes has been sentenced in one of them.

Michael Simmers was sentenced to 18 years in prison and three years probation in Livingston Parish. He must also pay restitution to his victims. An amount for the restitution will be announced in the near future.

Police arrested Simmers last year after receiving numerous complaints from flood victims alleging he had taken money without completing work on the victims' homes. Some homeowners said they were scammed out of as much as $50,000.

The Louisiana Contractors Licensing Board was contacted in reference to Simmers' license and it was learned that he did not have one at the time the contract was signed and was not permitted to work as a contractor. He also later admitted that he did not have a contractor's license.
